Robyn, ‘Robyn’

Metromix published this CD review that I did for Robyn’s self-titled album.

Discovered at the tender age of 13, Robyn achieved pop success in the U.S. and around the world in the ’90s. After “Show Me Love” shot her to near superstardom in ‘97, she had a series of business-side disappointments and went back to her native Sweden to regroup. Legend has it that she was so inspired by fellow Swedes the Knife that she bought herself out of her contract and started her own label, Konichiwa Records. Then she brought in Klas Ahlund from Teddybears and set about making the banging-est pop music possible. Finally, almost three years after its initial release, her self-titled comeback album arrives in the U.S.

Metromix published this feature that I wrote for St. Patrick’s Day.

Thank you, St. Patrick—patron of Ireland, beloved by the poor, hero who drove the snakes from the land. Not only do they wave their lucky charms for you on the Emerald Isle, but we here at Metromix love you because you make it acceptable to pinch perfect strangers and start drinking at 6 a.m.—on a Monday, no less!

Daniel LeDisko vs. Johnny Love

Metromix published this feature article that I wrote about the battle between Daniel from LA Riots and Johnny from Guns ‘n Bombs.

It’s another packed night at Beauty Bar for Franki Chan’s weekly party Still F*cking Awesome. It’s too bad all is not awesome between dueling DJs Daniel LeDisko (of L.A. Riots) and Johnny Love (of Guns ‘n’ Bombs) who are going at it fist-to-face. Blame fast fame, big egos and cold cash. With the new wave of superstar DJs upon us, the lines have blurred between DJ and rock star.
